How would you like to join a small workshop to discuss what it takes to really drive a business forward?

Our research tells us that small companies focus almost exclusively on sales and marketing and cash flow. Of the top 18 issues flagged up, 13 were about marketing and two of the others were about cash flow and investment.

Our experience of running businesses that have grown to 10-25 employees tells us a different story.

Success is all about systems and people, about marrying technology and motivation, left and right brain thinking. However, most companies think their IT, people policies and fulfilment processes are fine.

That's probably why only 1600 companies a year in the UK grow past 10 employees.

So we'd like to help you think about  how you will manage people and technology to create a business that adds maximum value to your customer.

In this strange 21st Century we need to recognise that we are part of the knowledge economy. Our business depends on helping our customers get the best use from their purchases as much as it does on producing and delivering the product itself.

A great business delivers excellent products through well designed processes run by creative and motivated people. Underpinning this needs to be a clear, well communicated purpose that attracts, motivates and retains customers and staff alike.

So we're going to set the scene by talking about
how today's business markets operate, how companies grow and the barriers they meet. Then we'll cover

  • how to create a story that motivates based on the key purpose of the business.
  • what it takes to create the processes that give you "just enough structure" and what lean ideas can teach you about setting up your business process
  • what basic people management practices make all the difference

Learning how to learn quicker than the competition is the only strategy for staying in business. We'll give you an understanding of what it takes.

We'll look at it as a fellow business owner and  we'll use examples from our own businesses which cover business and marketing consultancy, on-line trading in plants and garden equipment and organic vegetable production.

I've set up and run 4 businesses and I've also done a lot of resear have an annual revenue of around $1 million  in internet trading, plants and garden equipment and consultancy

I look forward to talking to you

Alan Rae.
